You don’t need to be a tax expert to help. Free software, laptops, and training are provided. You can choose to volunteer as often as you like, with options to volunteer in person or virtually.

By volunteering through the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, you will be helping those in need do their taxes and get the benefit and credit payments they may be entitled to.

Fill out the form below, or contact the program supervisor noted above to volunteer and make a difference in our community.

Steps for volunteering for this program

Join thousands of volunteers across Canada who help people in need do their taxes.

Step 1: Register as a volunteer

Fill out the form below to express your interest in registering as a volunteer with The Rosa Family Foundation. The program coordinator will reach out to you to determine the role you are looking for and provide you with instructions on registering with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Step 2: Complete the volunteer requirements

Depending on your role, you may need to register for a RepID with the Canada Revenue Agency; apply for a CVITP EFILE account; and provide a valid police records check obtained within the last three years. This process can take up to 30 business days.

Step 3: Take training

The Canada Revenue Agency provides free training. It is recommended that you complete this training before starting the program.

Step 4: Volunteer at a clinic

Tax preparers using their own devices will need to install the current version of the UFile CVITP tax software provided by the Canada Revenue Agency.

Once clinics begin, you must ask the taxpayer for identification and get authorization to do their taxes. You are required to keep their information secure and confidential. As a preparer, you must use the CRA’s electronic services (EFILE and AFR). Each return that is prepared must include the CVITP organization identification number (COIN) provided to you.

If you run into any issues, you may contact the RFF program coordinator or call the CVITP dedicated help line.
